Someone made My week

so what have I been doing all this while when i'm not updating this knit blog? let the pics do the talking.

lots of you have been waiting to look at my FBS. here's pics of the before and after block. i can never imagine how lovely FBS could be before blocking. i have enjoyed knitting it and would probably knit FBS #2 if given another pair of hands to knit.

Right after FBS, I cast on for Audrey, and here's a couple of pics on her.

From this photo you can get a clearer glimpse of the decreases and increase.

it's really hard to let go of Audrey, I need to peel my fingers off her each time. and i miss having her around at work.

The last words are for my dearest SP, Lisa. I never did expect I could have such a generous spoiler. Oh my gosh! take a look at what she had gotten for me. I feel like the luckiest spoilee. LOL

and guess what, I have been thinking about sock knitting so much, that i dreamt i was knitting socks last night. and Lisa dearie had also stated several sock knitting sites that could help me get started. I think Rox should award Lisa with The Most Thoughtful Secret Pal Award, cuz she got me an extra set of dpns to reduce my risk of developing "second sock syndrome". how could I ever thank her for her thoughtfulness?!?! I'm definitely looking forward to Lisa's next SP package.

PS. Although I'm not much of a berry fan, the Blackberry preserve is currently being savour by my family members. They HEART it! <3

Weekend happenings

No pics this weekend, as the batteries for the camera need to be charged.

On a brighter note, i have done many things this weekend. Pls congratulate yours truly as the Flower Basket Shawl is off the needles since Saturday morning. I will have it blocked before the July's meetup. There's still 5% of the misti alpaca lace left after 10 repeats of the shawl, including edging.

In addition, I have swatched for Orangina before our mini KAL starts on July 1st. and not forgetting Audrey which is 15 rows done for the back piece. I just wanna tell the world that, Rowan CALMER is a dream to knit with, its worth every penny you have! and i just can't put down Audrey.

I need another FO for June, perhaps One Skein Wonder is the solution...

Flower Basket Shawl Cast On Tutorial

This particular cast on method is one of the many which I've spent many hours trying and google all over the internet for solutions. I believe that pictures speaks a thousand words. So I hope this tutorial will help those who are baffled by the special cast on method or the worded instructions did not help at all.
Full pattern instructions can be found in Interweave Knits Fall 2004.

I'm using gray as my waste yarn and purple as the main color. Using a crochet hook, ch 4. i guess no one has problems with this part.

On the underside of the crochet chain, there's 4 bumps. pick up 2 stitches as indicated.

Knit 6 rows based on the 2 picked up stitches. Knit 1 more row

This is the part which I have the most difficulties trying to understand. pick up and knit garter ridge 1, then 2 and 3. Now you should have 5 stitches on your right hand needle

Unzip the waste yarn to expose 2 loops, place them one the left needle and knit them.

And finally you have a total of 7 stitches

So much for the weekend

and I will leave you all with some of my WIPs.

I'm beyond the 4th repeat as you are going through this blog now. Noticed the red floss, those are the Lifelines of each repeats. This will help when i in the ripping business, such that i wont frog the whole piece. This wonderful tip is brought to you by Becky

This is Trellis, which i have increase stitches on the sides for upsizing. i'm still sitting on the fence whether to abandon the whole thing.

A report on my Lucky clover wrap progress. The right front and back pieces.

I have been pestered by Cara and now a worldwide reminder by Erin to post a pic of my Clapotis. Well, here it is.

In natural light

Cozy from Knitty.com is also another project which i have finish right after Mariah.

A close up of the lace pattern

I have also started on my Flower Basket Shawl and I'm on the 2nd row of the 3 repeat. Hope to get some pictures in good lighting. Till then do drop comments and tell me what you think of my FOs.

Secret Pal mails

I have just gotten a confirmation from my SP that her address is correct. But when is the official start date for sending out the goodies? any one knows? or have i miss out on that piece of info?

and also, my SP, the one who's gonna spoil me, has emailed last night with a couple of questions. perhaps i should give a more explicit answers on this blog. So dearest SP, Lisa, do visit this blog often to know me better.

Colors
I used to love black as it makes one looks slimmer. the ironic part is that i have not knitted a single item in black so far. I love pastels, although they make me look 1 - 2 sizes bigger. as an Asian, i can hardly take browns, oranges and other very warm and earthy tones. Solid colour and no varigeted please.

Music
i'm not particular in the instruments department. i listen a lot to Diana Krall and Norah Jones. I do like to be introduced to male Jazz singers.

Yarns
I think this is a pretty easy task. There's a limited number of brands available in Singapore. I like to try Knitpicks Shine, Elan's Peruvian collection. And I've also fallen in love <3 Phildar Tendances Spring 2005 magazine, especially some of its spring jackets and tops.

Lisa, if have any questions do feel free to ask me. Hope you have a good time shopping for me. =)

Week 2205

Life at work is getting boring, the thought of knitting day in and out is really a luxury. There's a new forum on the block, created by Cara. It's more of Asia base, however international knitters/crafters are welcome to join us.

Through this forum, i got to know the KL knitters via YIM. and i had YIM installed specially to chat with them. I had a great time chatting with Doreen, Vanessa, Laura and knitties (sorry i didn't pick up your name). hope to meet them when I'm going up to KL the next time round.

and thanks to Doreen, I've managed to cast on successfully and correctly on the Flower Basket Shawl. If I'm not lazy, I'll most probably do a photo tutorial on this special cast on method. I'm on the 13th row of the Upper Flower Basket and realised I misread the K2tog as SSKs, so i guess i will need to unknit 8 rows down where the k2tog and ssk start, which is Row 5. :(

I had some issues with the SP5 matchings, fortunately things are fine with the help of the wonderful organiser Rox. Hope my SP will email me soon. Going off now to email the pal whom i'll be spoiling.
