Yarn Sprees

recent S.E.X
I had been conducting yarn sprees, the day I knew that Knitpicks doesn't ship international and still doesn't till this day. To buy in bulk with other like minded knitters was great to share cost and shipping. Also, to see people beaming when they receive their yarns, made me continued as the Enabler.
So here's the recent purchase from Nordic.com, which specialises in Garnstudio yarns. I am truely surprised by the quality, as most of the time we could only depend on the reviews in Ravelry. This very first spree justified itself and for future purchases.
A soon to be used up yarn, Kidsilk Night in Moonlight. I got 6 balls for Lily Chin's Reversible Ribbed stole. I must be knitting too much and too fast with this yarn, that I ended up with a wounded index finger. Compared to KSH, there's glitter spun within, so I guess it the glitter that caused the abrasion. Anyways, I order another 6 balls in Port, cuz the price was too hard to resist.
Next up is some cashmere cobweb/lace goodies all the way from UK. I guess those who have bought from the same seller will know who I'm talking about. Each color would be enough for a stole/shawl. All for less than US$60.

Lack of love
Not for my DH but for this blog.
Lots had been going on, tied up with Knitpicks sprees and local knit outs. It was nice to put faces to the nicks I saw in the Singapore group on ravelry. Being a knit out organiser is both sweet and bitter. I don't think I want to go into details on that, it might get political. With the impending WWKIP Day on 14th June, I'm wondering how would the turn out be. Well, the size doesn't matter, does it?
This blog is lacking lustre, readership has drop at least 40%. I can only blame myself on procastination. Hoping that life doesn't get busier than this.
Thanks to B for getting the color cards below. I thought the colors look more real than the swatches on screen.
1. Knitpicks Shadow, 2. Knitpicks Shadow, 3. Knitpicks Shadow, 4. Knitpicks Gloss Lace, 5. Knitpicks Gloss Lace, 6. Knitpicks Gloss Lace
I'm on my third scarf, Lacy Ribbon from Knitty Spring. Hope to start Jarrett or even a sock very soon.

Socktober Yarns
Its the month for socks, why not time (excuse) to get some sock yarns? No sock FOs so I shall make it up for sockyarns. Well, Adrianne and I had been eyeing on Wollmeise for quite a while. Not until an online store was set up recently. Even so, the yarns were sold out faster than I can blink. So I tried blinking faster and here are 2 skeins I scored!!! YAY *does the happy dance*
No prize for guessing which skein belongs to either me or Adrianne. :p
PS. I will bring them to show on this Saturday's Knit Out.

Anti-Wool Post
Time to update blog but I have no progress pictures of FPS, so I shall tell you what came in my mail box the past week. It was very exciting when yarns kept pouring out from the metallic box, I got high on just by opening the packages. Its alwasy a challenge to take good pictures of yarns since I'm only enabled with the 3.2mpixel camera on my N73.
If you notice the title, the yarns below all came from Karen, my No Sheep swap pal. Kudos to her efforts in putting together such an enterprising package. I've already plan what to knit with this aMaizing yarn.
I am amazed that such yarn exist.
A close up.

Yarns from Hongkong
Met up with Maryann and Erin right after my HK trip. Have a great time meeting Maryann for the first time after chatting over MSN for so long, and also long time no see Erin. Time passes very fast when you either knit or talk about knitting. How I wish we can do this several time over again.
Ok, I know there's people here who are anxious to know what yarns i bought back. Not much, as the price is still quite steep. Anyways, I grabbed 13 sets of addis in various lenghts and sizes. I think I be will back for more Puppy yarn if financially I'm allowed.
Lastly, I thank everyone, who either left me a comment or over msn and email, for their well wishes on my engagement. Right now is to try bargain with FH not to have the Chinese Customary wedding. I think this might be a wedding prep blog temporary.

4 cones
I was about to get ready for my errands today, but a visit from the postman changed my plans. After a few hours of with my swift winder and weighing scale, I had 6 yarn cakes. From the top, Ice Blue, Sage, Plum and Elderberry. I simply can't resist the price of US$7+ for a shawl's worth of fiber. I think the other 3 recipients of the yarns are very excited too..
Just a mini recap of my FOs and WIPs, Nerissa from Rowan 41 was up within a week. I also started a couple of projects from IK Summer 2006 magazine. I need to finish the edgings on Lotus Blossom Tank and also the straps for the Bias Corset. And Sheldon from knitty.com needs 4 limbs. Current WIP is the Kimono Shawl using Jaggerspun Zephyr in Lady Slipper.
I shall leave some pics of the last Knit Out.

SP9 strikes for the last time
Finally my SP9 spoiler had revealed herself in this last package. Thanks to Pamela again for this wonderful package! Here's a pic to show whats she had done for me.
And I wonder how did Pamela find out Kaalund yarns have been in my dream? She got me 4 balls for lace shawl.
On non knitting stuffs, I have been baking and cooking. Since the SO loves Har-jiong Kai (Prawn Paste Chicken), and I have sometime to spare today here's the end result:
For the benefit to those who are itnerested in the recipe and also for myself incase I got the wrong bottle of prawn paste.
Ingredients:
12 small wings (center portions only the length of your index fingers)
plain flour for coating when deep frying
Marinating :
1 tbsp of prawn paste
a few dashes of sesame oil
1 tsp of honey
Method:
1. Marinate the wings, cover and place in the fridge, overnight.
2. Drain the wings
3. Prepare pan and oil for deep frying. Heat up the oil.
4. Coat the wings evenly with flour.
5. You can start frying the wings, once the oil is hot.
6. In order to have crispy wings, turn the heat to medium.
7. Done when wings turn golden brown.
8. Dig in!!!
Notes:
- Prawn paste is a very pungent ingredient, be sure to keep the marinating air tight, else the whole of your fridge will be nauseating. ok i'm exaggerating.
- Its pretty saltish so you might add lesser prawn paste and maybe 1 more tsp of honey. Or just cut short the marinating time.
- I prefer small wings and only the middle section. They are easier to cook.

Greetings From Vermont
This is a belated post. I got my Yarn Aboard box right after Christmas, in time for Boxing Day. The last week of 2006 was super hectic, the office was trying to clear off any backlogs before closing of the year. So I only had time to pack the the goodies up and sent it off.
So what did Sir Francis Drake come with? A hank of Cherry Tree Hill supersock in Sapphire, 2 hanks of Knitpicks Shadow in Jewel, teas, cards and candies. All of these put together by Michelle from Vermont. And that's how far Sir F.D. had travel. He spent the New Year with me before heading back to Louisiana.
A big Thank You to Michelle for putting all these together.

Stashing again: ACT II
I hasn't been not knitting at all. In fact, I'm on sleevie island for Salina. Here's proof: I think I have a little mess at the lapels. *sigh* hope things turn out fine.
I got my last package for SP8 and also a bag of Rowanspun DK in Rush on the same day. (Pic was taken last week)
Did I mention I have many sleepless nights due to a spree? Air mails from the States never take more than 14 days. This particular package took 7 weeks to reach me. I will never ever order from this retailer for fear of losing sleep and hair over the delay. A loot full of Rowan Calmer, Cascade 220, King Tut Cotton, Noro Lily. However, only 15% of them belongs to me. and since this morning my stash has grown to a staggerly 204 balls of yarns.

Midweek treats
I really hope this week is getting better, it can be as I am expecting more packages. It's like buying yarns has became my full time job. Anyway, all the yarns had already been called for.
From the far left,
- Woodland Sage, Gloss from Knitpicks, between Diamond Fantasy and Swallowtail Shawl
- Blessed, Rowan Yorkshire Tweed 4 ply, won from a contest. (something from Vintage Knits)
- Cream, Merino Stretch from Schoelle Stahl. I shall knit this once again as I'm not satisfied by the result previously.
- Cactus, Soho Summer from Jo Sharp. Cherry shall turn into a cactus.
- color 97, Cash Iroha from Noro, a choice of either Raspy from Rowan Denim People or the Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.
I got to get them into ziplocks right now. And more edging to go for FFL shawl.Opps, before I forget. Did I mentioned Yuvee was in Singapore the last weekend? I managed to meet up with her the day before she left for home. We agreed to meet at the usual yarn store. Fortunately we walked out from the store unscathed.

Row call
I did one just after finishing 3/4 of the 6th repeat of FFL. So here's the report.
Total No of of balls : 137
Total meterage: 23200.5metres
Total weight (grams): 9100g
The above excludes the following :p
- 1 cone of Jaggerspun Zephyr
- Yarns which are going to be destashed
- Yarns which are still on their way to me.
I just ordered 9 hanks of Noro Cash Iroha from Webs Noro sale and also 6 balls of Jo Sharp Soho summer for Cherry. And not forgetting the recent knithappens.net spree and the knitpicks.com order. The figures are going in one direction which is North.
On a happy note, I think this figures are not staggering at all. And better still, I think there's plenty of room for expansion (In terms of figures not the space).
And if this is the first time you are visiting this blog, you are most welcomed to join my birthday giveaway.

More books
I think I should ban myself from the internet and from going out to the bookstore. These are the damages so far.
Anyway, the past 48 hours were spent sleeping, eating, caught a movie with SO, knitting and finished 6 dvds of Goong. I was so tired after 2 dvds of Goong that I was sleeping through half of this show. I guess only guys like the SO would prefer this genre.
On the knitting front, Petunia is almost 50% done. Mom is urging me to have this knitted for her. I'm still considering cause its really a beautiful piece. About 98% of the knit stitches are done through the back loop. I will try to get a close up of the stitches if possible.
I also got buttons for the Knit1 Summer cropped cardigan. I got 5 x 1 inch diameter buttons instead of the recommended 3 x 1.5 inch size. I ill continue this if I got stuck with Petunia's pattern.
Oopz, did I mention that Vogue Knitting Fall preview is up? An issue worth getting as I'm only attracted to the socks.

Worth Coveting
After reading so much reviews about the Vesper Sock Yarns from www.knitterlythings.com, I just got to give it a try. I finally had the chance when someone posted on knitty board that Julia is having some on her etsy store. I was crossing my fingers that there would be at least 1 hank left. Lucky me, I had 2 choices of colorway. And here's what I got: Its call Sweetwater, very summery colour. Now I need a good sock pattern.

To the end, almost
Yes, the end is near for Lady E. I'm on the last ball of Silk Garden. The bunch of yarns were cut in 40" each for the trimmings. As I get nearer to the end, the stronger is the adrenlina. I'm so looking forward to have her finished. Meanwhile she is massive even at 400g.
Here's the prize for Belinda for winning in my contest. Took the pics before I gifted her yesterday. Two hanks of yarns, wonderfully dyed by Kessa, The Singing Yarn. She does custom dyeing too. So check out with her.
Meanwhile I had another stashing yesterday after meeting with the knit group. This cutey balls of yarn, each 25g 73metres, are really hard to resist. I got 2 boxes of them, they should be enough to make a short sleeved top. Next are the yarns from Filatura di Crosa, the cream latte is Millefili Fine 100% mercenrized cotton. The 3 balls of magenta are Zarina, doesn't merino wool sound yummy? Anyway, both additions are spoken for. Guess I need to start destashing or have a yarn diet.

Flashing the monster
all This is the Stash Monster which is currently growing in my room. Here's a picture of what it's made up of. (Click for a bigger pic) I'm too lazy with the unpacking and packing of ziplocks, so you shall see them with their "raincoats" on. So if you want to swap or buy my stash from me, you know how protective I am with my precious. Moreover, its a pet free and smoke free home.
1. Japanese yarn, a very fine gauge of 33sts/10cm. and also the last ball of Trinity for 1952
2. 10 balls of australia wool bought on my last Taipei trip.
3. 10 balls of Noro Silk Gardern #88
4. 2 hanks of Color Your Own and 1 hank of Paint Your Own
5. 4 skeins of Wool of the Andes in Fog and 8 balls of Rowan 4 ply soft in Buzz
6. 4 cakes of i-dont-know-what-blend shiny yarn from Taipei. (maybe destined to become IK's Lacy Kerchief)
7. 4 balls of Japanese KSH wannabe, it has similar fiber content, same if not more yardage. Most importantly, its half the price of KSH.
8. sock yarns here with 1 ball of RYV Cashsoft leftover for Rebecca 31 project.
9. 3 balls of Japanese KSH wannabe. same as bag #7 but its varigated.
10. the newcomer, 6 hanks of Elsebeth Lavold SIlky Wool.
Edited to add: The Monster is not for sale. None at all
I got another huge package (2 times the size of a regular pillow) from Bendigo Mill from Australia. I was worried that it may have gotten lost. The package took an extra week to arrive cuz it violated the aviation regulation (or something likewise). As each ball comes in 200grams, they are really HUGE, about 3 times of a normal 50gram ball. . No worries, not all were for the Monster in my room.
Of course, I'm still destashing. and stashing up too. =P

Handdyed sock yarns
Bought a few hanks of plain sock yarns and some kool-aids from the sweet Wendy. Since then I've been procastinating to dye. And working fulltime doesn't improve anything, since I'm left with a few hours to knit. So, i requested Kessa to help me with 2 hanks.
So with a few packs each of cherry, pink lemonade and grape, and with her magic, here's the outcome:
I will start Jaywalker with the left and most probably a lace socks for the darker one. The Dyer is brewing something, and we shall all find out soon.
Edited: I just placed an order for 8oz of Zephyr.
